The Man

by John Graham

For the past week I have been to hell and back and have cried out "why" so many times, and have sought to understand the reason for Colin's death. They say the accident was a fluke, surely it was an act of God? So why did he bring him into the world, only to take him away from us so cruelly, and give us so much pain and sorrow?

Well, love hurts, and are we not all here today showing that we must have cared very dearly. So perhaps Colin is bringing us together and showing us all how to care for each other, instead of living island lives which go on but never seem to meet.

The kindness of people who have rung up, the hugs and kisses from all those who have helped us through this tragedy would only have been achieved by Colin dying. I thought Colin was special, but I did not realise how much until I heard what he did from his friends. I feel very privileged to have been chosen to be his father.

I believe that Colin was Gods messenger, bringing people together and showing us all how much we can care for each other. My heart goes out to all those to whom Colin was very close, and I hope they can take some comfort from these words.

You might think that I am very religious, but I have not been confirmed and don't attend Church apart from Weddings and Funerals, and occasionally over Christmas. My Church is the countryside I walk through on the regular hikes I do, and my communion with God is the appreciation of all his wondrous works.

Thank you all for being here and showing us that you cared.
